Saint Barbara is the Patron Saint of miners, artillerymen, military engineers, gunsmiths and those who face the danger of sudden and violent death in work. Barbara was the pretty daughter of a rich, pagan businessman named Dioscuros and she became a Christian and was baptized against her father’s will. Out of anger, her father held Barbara captive in a tower until she managed to flee and hide in a rocky cliff. She was betrayed and caught and beheaded by her father. Her feast day is December 4th.
