Anthony of Padua
Saint Anthony of Padua is the patron saint of the lost; people, items and stolen goods...as well as the loss of fertility and animals. Anthony of Padua, born Fernando Martins, was a priest from the Abbey of Santa Cruz and then later joined the Franciscan Order and changed his name to Anthony. He was known for his great prayer life, scriptural knowledge, purity and dependance on God. The story behind his patronage is when a novice decided to leave the hermitage, he stole Anthony's valuable book of psalms and so Anthony prayed it would be found. The thief did in fact return the book as well as returned to the Order. His image is typically shown holding the child Jesus, a lily, a book or all three in his arms. His feast day is June 13th.
