Patron Saint of Police Officers

AKA: Law Enforcement, Cops, Detectives, State Troopers, Sheriffs, Marshals, SWAT

Police officers play a vital role in maintaining law and order, protecting citizens, and ensuring public safety. They have sworn to and are responsible for responding to emergencies, enforcing laws, investigating crimes, and making arrests. Police officers are often the first responders to a wide range of incidents, including domestic disputes, traffic accidents, crowd control and crimes in progress.

In addition to their duties as law enforcement officers, police also play an important role in building community relationships and helping to resolve conflicts. By working with local community members and other organizations, police officers can help to prevent crime, address public safety concerns, and promote a sense of security.

Being a police officer is a dangerous job. Police face all kinds of risks in the line of duty, including physical harm, exposure to violent crime and dangerous situations, and exposure to infectious diseases. They also face the risk of being shot, beaten, or killed while in the line of duty. The psychological and spiritual toll of the job can also be significant, as police officers often deal with traumatic events and may suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Despite these risks, many police officers are dedicated to serving and protecting their communities. They understand the importance of their work and are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of those they serve.

Who is the Patron Saint of Police Officers

The most well-known Patron Saint of Police Officers is of course St. Michael the Archangel. We also all have our own Guardian Angel, so they are great protectors for those who serve in law enforcement as well.

St. Michael the Archangel, whose name means “who is like God”, is considered the most powerful of all the angels in heaven. He has played, both biblically and in tradition, an important role of mutually protecting the innocent from evil and guiding souls to God. Police officers often face dangerous and difficult situations in their line of duty, and so look to St. Michael for guidance, strength, and protection. His intercession can help them carry out their duties with honor and bravery. He can also help them find comfort and inspiration in their difficult and demanding work.

Guardian Angels were assigned by God to protect and guide them throughout their entire life. Remembering the presence of their Guardian Angel can bring a sense of peace and security in even the most challenging circumstances for police officers.

Prayers for Police Officers

Police Officers Prayer to St. Michael

Archangel Michael, Heaven’s glorious commissioner of police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God’s premises of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional eyes on your Earthly force. Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgment. Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, and friend to strangers, polite to bores, strict with lawbreakers and impervious to temptations. You know, Archangel Michael, from your own experiences with the devil, that the police officer’s lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration. And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people. Amen.
